For Sale: Vintage Aqua-Enameled O'Keefe & Merritt Applia

We have remodeled our kitchen and, alas, our lovely aqua-enameled O'Keefe & Merritt gas cooktop and double wall oven have been replaced. The wall oven is in very good condition, spotless inside and the wood door handles look terrific. The cooktop works well, but needs some reconditioning to brin...

Any realtor who tells you that these properties aren't dramatically affected by wind is lying. There is a reason why the Palm Springs properties located in the south part of town and along the base of the mountains along the west part of town are more expensive. All you have to do is look at a map a...

We saw the show last night and it was WONDERFUL. As a lover and owner of some of Shag's artwork, I was skeptical about how they could pull off bringing Shag's world to life on a stage. They do it. It is not a "musical" per se, in that none of the characters speak. But the music, the dancing, the art...

Not sure if you're in California, but in California, the tree's owner would likely be liable for damage that the tree causes to the neighbor's property (if a branch fell off and onto her car or through her roof) and the neighbor would have the right to self-help (i.e. trimming the tree) if it extend...

I think you were looking at the Kaufmann house. It has beautiful desert landscaping with boulders, agaves and yuccas leading up to a stainless steel metal gate and concrete wall. Over the wall, you can see a lot of the second story of the house and some of the first story through the gate. I would s...

It actually has neighbors all around it. Although I think it sits on over an acre, it is hardly the isolated masterpiece depicted in the original Julius Schulman photos showing miles of desert sloping up to the mountains. While its not in the middle of tract homes, it is definitely surrounded by sub...

Bizzaza makes BEAUTIFUL terrazo tiles with colored glass bits in the tile field. A wide variety of colors. We saw them last weekend on a display at the Great Indoors. I'm not sure of the price, but it's not cheap. Looks wonderful, though.

In our comings and goings at open houses, the term "Architectural" has generally signified that the realtor thinks the house is in some way contemporary or modernist, but doesn't know exactly how to categorize it or knows and is unwilling to categorize it. Also, we've seen that term applied when the...

I haven't heard that rumor, but it would surprise me if a developer wanted to put a Whole Foods (or any other grocery store) there since there is a Ralphs one block east at Hollywood and Western and there is a Mayfair one block north on Franklin. Built-In Wall Clock?

We have uncovered the remains of a built-in wall clock in the patio area of our mid-century modern Palm Springs house. The movement of the clock sat back in a standard 4" electrical box in the wall. Unfortunately, someone ruined the clock by covering it over with spackle and plaster, etc. so it can'...

My understanding is that the house is supposed to go to a legitimate non-profit organization. Not an individual putting the house on their private property with vague promises of giving tours at their discretion. I would be very disappointed if this is the best option that the property owners have. ...

Assuming the house is not a "fixer," regardless of the architecture, that price does not appear to be "inflated" for the area. I confess I haven't seen it. We live very close (a few blocks) and homes of that size are routinely selling in the high 7s, low 8s and one recently went for 920,000.
